Change for the Community has raised more than $134 thousand for local non-profit organizations since 2013. We invite you to round your bill up to the nearest dollar (an average of 50 cents per month) to help your local community. One-hundred percent of the money contributed is disbursed by a Change for the Community board (made up of Gibson Electric members ) to local 501(c)(3) organizations.

Change for the Community is a voluntary, opt-in program offered by Gibson Electric to round-up your monthly electric bill to the next dollar. Launched in 2013 by Hickman-Fulton Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, Kentucky members have raised thousands to make a difference in their communities. The average monthly donation is 50 cents. Now available to Tennessee members, we invite you to join Change for the Community. By adding a few extra cents to your monthly bill, YOU can make positive change in our communities.
Why Should I Participate?
Change for the Community harnesses the power and strength of numbers. By collectively rounding up monthly electric bills to the next dollar, you can help support non-profit organizations who benefit residents in the Gibson Electric service area. Already in Kentucky, the accumulation of just a small amount of change per month per member has led to impactful disbursements of grants invested back into our communities. The first funds were disbursed to charitable non-profits in August 2014. A lot has happened since then, but one thing is for certain, need continues to grow. Your donation is tax-deductible and participants are sent a summary of their yearly contributions during the first quarter of each year. Tell Me More About the Board
The Change for the Community board of directors represent three geographical regions of the Gibson EMC service area - North, Central and South. The Gibson Electric Board of Trustees collectively selects nine board members from the same geographic area that the Trustees represent. Change for the Community board of directors are not paid and are community leaders who serve on a voluntary basis.
How Are Grants Invested?
Change for the Community Grants are about local dollars meeting local needs in the local community. As a member of Gibson Electric we invite you to begin rounding-up your monthly electric bill to the next dollar. The objective is to help build a stronger, more powerful West Tennessee and Western Kentucky through strategic donations to well-established and impactful charitable organizations within our service area.
